According to Vanguard, on Sunday, July 5, 2026, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, says troops are making significant progress towards the rescue of 39 pupils and seven teachers abducted in Oyo State.
Shaibu disclosed this during an interactive session with media executives on Saturday in Port Harcourt, as part of activities marking the 2026 Nigerian Army Day Celebration. The victims were abducted on May 15 from three schools in Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State, in an attack that heightened concerns over the safety of pupils in rural and semi-urban communities.
The Army Chief said troops had intensified operations in the forests and communities suspected to be harbouring the abductors, deploying a combination of ground patrols, aerial surveillance and intelligence gathering to track the victims’ location..CONTINUE FULL READING>>>
