According to a report by Nigerian Tribune, on Thursday, June 19, 2026, Nollywood actress Dayo Amusa has criticised the presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, over his approach to discussing government policies, saying that anyone seeking to lead the country should be able to provide clear solutions alongside their criticisms.
Amusa made her comments through a social media post after watching Peter Obi’s recent interview with broadcaster Rufai Oseni, where the former Anambra State governor spoke on his plans and views on some national issues.
During the interview, Obi reportedly avoided giving detailed explanations on how he intended to execute some of the policies he had proposed.
Reacting to the interview, the actress argued that political leaders who aspire to occupy the highest office in the country must be prepared to explain both their vision and the practical steps they would take to achieve their goals.
She stated that it is not enough for politicians to identify problems or highlight shortcomings in existing government policies without presenting workable alternatives.
According to Amusa, Nigerians deserve a better understanding of what presidential candidates intend to do differently if given the opportunity to govern.
She maintained that voters have the right to know the plans, strategies and approaches of individuals asking for their support during elections.
The actress further questioned why Obi chose not to reveal more details about his proposed plans, suggesting that keeping such information undisclosed could make it difficult for citizens to properly assess his readiness for leadership.
She emphasised that leadership requires accountability and transparency, noting that candidates should be able to explain how they intend to turn their promises into reality rather than only pointing out the failures of those currently in power.
She said, it’s very obvious you don’t want people to vote you that is why you want to keep your plans to your chest, it’s not a secret affair.”
Amusa added that Nigerians need to hear concrete ideas and understand the direction a candidate intends to take the country before deciding whether to support them.
She said her reaction was based on her impression of Obi’s interview with Rufai Oseni, which she described as lacking the inspiration expected from someone seeking the presidency.
She concluded by stressing that political ambitions should come with openness and willingness to share plans with the public, as voters need sufficient information to make informed decisions.
