President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a minor reshuffle of the Federal Executive Council, resulting in the exit of Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa.
The changes were announced in an official memo from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, signed by Senator George Akume.
Under the new arrangement, Taiwo Oyedele has been elevated to assume the position of Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy. Oyedele previously served as Minister of State in the ministry.
In the Housing Ministry, Muttaqha Rabe Darma has been named ministerial nominee and minister-designate, subject to the necessary constitutional confirmation process.
The memo directed Edun to hand over to Oyedele, while Dangiwa is to transfer responsibilities to the Minister of State pending Darmaâs formal assumption of office.
According to the directive, all handing-over processes must be concluded on or before the close of business on Thursday, April 23, 2026.
Explaining the rationale behind the reshuffle, Akume said the changes were designed to strengthen internal coordination within government and improve service delivery, particularly on the economy.
âThese changes are aimed at strengthening cohesion, synergy in governance as well as achieving more impactful delivery on the economy to Nigerians through the Renewed Hope Agenda,â he stated.
The SGF added that President Tinubu exercised his constitutional powers under Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) in effecting the changes.
Tinubu also thanked the outgoing ministers for their contributions and assured remaining cabinet members that efforts to reposition the administration for better performance would continue.
