According to Anadolu Agency, fresh reports indicate that the United States has carried out another round of airstrikes in southern and southwestern Iran, with several locations reportedly hit, including infrastructure close to the Bushehr nuclear power plant. The reported attacks come as hostilities between Washington and Tehran continue to escalate.
According to Iranian state media, explosions were heard in Khuzestan and Hormozgan provinces on Thursday, prompting emergency response teams to move into affected areas. State television reported blasts in the cities of Ahvaz and Ramshir, while additional explosions were recorded near the village of Ziyarat in Sirik, Hormozgan Province. Witnesses said they heard repeated explosions as Iranian air defense systems were activated.
Tasnim News Agency also reported explosions near Bandar Mahshahr, a major industrial and energy center in Khuzestan Province. However, officials did not immediately release details on the extent of the damage or whether there were any casualties.
Among the reported targets was a power station located near the Bushehr nuclear power plant, Iran’s only operational civilian nuclear facility. Although there were reports of damage to nearby infrastructure, Iranian authorities said there was no indication that the nuclear plant itself had been struck.
The Bushehr facility has remained a major point of concern since the conflict intensified earlier this month. Previous military operations were reported near the site, raising fears about the dangers of conducting attacks close to civilian nuclear infrastructure. Iranian officials have maintained that earlier incidents caused no damage to the reactor and did not result in any radiation leaks.
Meanwhile, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that it had completed another night of operations targeting what it described as Iranian military assets, including missile depots, drone facilities, air defense systems, and maritime equipment. However, it did not specifically comment on the reported strikes near Bushehr, Ahvaz, or Bandar Mahshahr.
Iran has strongly condemned the attacks, accusing the United States of expanding its operations beyond military targets to include vital civilian infrastructure such as power stations and communication facilities. Tehran insists such actions violate international law and has vowed to continue retaliatory military operations as long as the strikes continue.
The conflict has also spread beyond Iran, with Tehran launching missile and drone attacks against US military positions and allied interests. At the same time, Iran-backed Houthi fighters have stepped up attacks on commercial vessels in the Red Sea, while growing tensions around the Strait of Hormuz continue to raise concerns over global energy supplies and maritime security.
