President Donald Trump said late on Friday that the US had carried out a lethal strike on Hector Rusthenford Guerrero Flores, also known as Nino Guerrero, the leader of Venezuelan prison gang Tren de Aragua.
Tren de Aragua has been labelled by the United States as a terrorist organisation. Guerrero Flores was charged in a New York federal court with racketeering conspiracy and other crimes, including lending support to terrorists in crimes that stretched more than a decade, authorities announced in December.
The White House, Pentagon and US Southern Command did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
