A 23-year-old British social media influencer has been charged with murder in Dubai and faces the d£ath penalty by firing squad, according to human rights group Detained in Dubai.
Brooke George, a former shop assistant from Gravesend, is accused of fatally st@bbing a 26-year-old fellow Briton understood to be William Treeby, also originally from Kent with a kitchen knife in his luxury apartment.
The two are said to have met through social media during an earlier trip to Dubai.
Detained in Dubai’s chief executive, Radha Stirling, who is leading George’s legal campaign, maintains that she acted in self-defence after being punched and att@cked.
Stirling has called on Dubai authorities to treat George as a domestic violence survivor while investigations are ongoing and to grant her bail.
She is currently being held at Bur Dubai Police Station.
According to campaigners, the man had initially appeared friendly during George’s first visit, arranging a photoshoot and presenting himself positively.
However, on her return trip, he is alleged to have taken her passport and launched a violent att@ck.
George claims he assaulted her in a vehicle following a night out before continuing the att@ck at his apartment.
Fearing for her life, she says she grabbed a kitchen knife and st@bbed him, after which she retrieved her passport and attempted to flee the UAE.
She was arr£sted at Dubai airport while trying to board a flight back to Britain.
George’s family allege that she was subjected to further mistreatment in custody, including being forced to undress in front of male officers, being denied legal representation, and facing proceedings conducted without interpretation.
Her mother, Thereza George, described her daughter as visibly terrified and physically injured when she spoke to her shortly after the incident, noting that one of her eyes was badly swollen.
Stirling described the case as part of a troubling and recurring pattern of young British women being drawn to Dubai through promises of romance, luxury, or paid work, only to allege exploitation, coercion, and violence upon arrival.
She called on UAE authorities to examine all communications and devices linked to the deceased man to establish whether other women may have been similarly targeted, and urged that George receive proper medical care, legal support, and consular assistance from British officials.
