Eighteen business owners affected by the August 22 fire at SPAR Shopping Mall in Calabar, Cross River State, have received N25 million each to support the rebuilding of their businesses.
The intervention, totalling N450 million, was approved by President Bola Tinubu following a pledge by First Lady Oluremi Tinubu during her visit to the state for the inauguration of the South-South National Community Foodbank programme.
The beneficiaries were identified as verified victims of the fire, which destroyed their businesses and disrupted their livelihoods.
Cross River State Governor, Bassey Otu, is presenting the cheques to the affected business owners as part of efforts to help them recover from the losses.
The financial assistance is expected to provide immediate relief to the beneficiaries as they begin rebuilding their businesses following the incident.
The intervention comes after the First Lady visited the state and announced support for those affected by the fire.
