“We call on security and intelligence agencies to monitor the activities of these clandestine organizations and disgruntled elements and prevent them from orchestrating crises programmed to destabilize the country.”

The Pan-Nigeria Civil Society and Opposition Alliance, PANCSOA, has strongly condemned the calls by some individuals and organisations on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to resign in the face of escalating insecurity in the country. PANCSOA describes the call as “…both nonsensical, irresponsible, and outghtrightly preposterous…”

“It has come to our notice the calls by the House of Representatives Minority leader and some faceless groups on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to resign due to the security challenges in the country. These calls have given credence to the suspicions all along that the burgeoning incidents of insecurity in the country as the 2027 general elections are approaching are politically motivated. The hidden agenda of some unpatriotic political desperados hellbent to get on getting power by all means, including at the cost human lives and blood, has come to light by these suspicious calls.”

“It is agreed that insecurity is ravaging the country, but this must be balanced with the relentless efforts of the current administration and the Nigerian military to tackle the challenge. Moreover, such calls so close to the general elections are very destabilizing. It is less than seven months to the general elections. If there are no ulterior motives by these agents of destabilization, why calling on the president to resign so close to the elections? The sane thing for an opposition Party, individual, or organization to do at the moment is to canvass for the votes of Nigerians at the appropriate time instead of overheating the polity by reckless and combustible statements.

“As an opposition organization ourselves, we find the call for the president to resign quite curious and suspicious. What’s important at the moment is for all candidates to prepare to meet on the field of election contest and for the preferred and best prepared candidates to win elections at national and subnational levels. The calls for the president to resign are both nonsensical, irresponsible, and outghtrightly preposterous.”
