US President Donald Trump on Sunday shared a cryptic post on Truth Social, raising speculation over possible fresh military action against Iran amid ongoing tensions in the region.
Trump posted the message, “It Was The Calm Before The Storm,” along with an AI-generated image showing him aboard a US Navy vessel wearing a “Make America Great Again” cap. The image also featured stormy weather, lightning, and Iranian ships near the Strait of Hormuz.
The post came at a time when reports suggest the Trump administration is reviewing options for renewed military action against Iran following a temporary pause in hostilities.
According to a report by The New York Times, Trump returned from Beijing facing key decisions on Iran, while senior officials are preparing plans in case diplomatic talks fail.
The report stated that US officials and allied nations are attempting to negotiate an agreement that could persuade Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a major global oil shipping route. The proposed deal could also allow Trump to present the development as a diplomatic success.
However, Trump appeared to reject Iran’s latest proposal while speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One after leaving China.
“I looked at it, and if I don’t like the first sentence, I just throw it away,” Trump reportedly said.
The report further claimed that the Pentagon has prepared contingency plans for a possible restart of “Operation Epic Fury,” which had been paused after Trump announced a ceasefire last month.
US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth reportedly said that the United States has “a plan to escalate if necessary,” even as officials continue discussions on possible troop withdrawals from the Middle East.
According to the report, the options under consideration include expanded airstrikes on Iranian military and infrastructure sites. Another possible option involves deploying Special Operations forces to target underground nuclear material at Iran’s Isfahan nuclear facility.
The developments come amid continued uncertainty over the future of US-Iran relations and growing concerns over stability in the Middle East.
