Broadcast journalist Godsbrain Smart, popularly known as Captain Smart, has signed a petition addressed to President John Dramani Mahama calling for the continuation of the long-stalled Mumford Fishing Harbour project to support fishing communities in Gomoa West.
The Onua TV presenter’s involvement comes amid his growing political engagement in the Central Region constituency, where he has declared intentions to contest the parliamentary seat in the 2028 general elections.
He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Central Regional Development Commission, having been sworn in on June 17, 2026.
The Mumford Fishing Harbour has been a recurring, decades-long promise to residents of the fishing communities of Apam, Mumford, and Dego in Gomoa West.
Then-President John Agyekum Kufuor first pledged to construct the harbour during a visit in 2004, a promise that went unfulfilled and became a significant source of local frustration.
The late President John Evans Atta Mills later renewed the commitment during a 2008 campaign visit, pledging to build the harbour and improve related infrastructure such as cold storage facilities for fishermen.
The petition adds to Captain Smart’s continued advocacy on issues affecting the Central Region, where he has previously used his media platform to press government officials on infrastructure and development concerns.
