I didn’t mean any harm. I always had love and respect for you. I always wanted to make it right,” she said. Cardi added that she had contacted Latto, real name Alyssa Stephens, through her manager, her sister, and direct messages to take full responsibility.
Rapper Cardi B has addressed references to her in Latto’s new track Gimme Dat, saying she has reached out multiple times to resolve their past misunderstanding.
The issue stems from a leaked phone call in September 2025, in which Cardi B reportedly called Latto a “pussy” during a heated discussion. Cardi, real name Belcalis Almánzar, publicly apologised immediately after the call was released.
In a statement posted on X on Thursday, June 4, Cardi said she regrets the incident and clarified that her words did not reflect her intentions. “I truly understand how you feel… I didn’t mean any harm. I always had love and respect for you. I always wanted to make it right,” she said. Cardi added that she had contacted Latto, real name Alyssa Stephens, through her manager, her sister, and direct messages to take full responsibility.
Latto confirmed in an interview with The Breakfast Club that the lyrics in Gimme Dat were directed at Cardi. The song includes a line referencing Cardi’s attempt to buy her a gift: “Talkin’ ’bout buying Big Mama a bag like my n—- ain’t already bought it.” Latto explained that the song reflected events in her life at the time and was not intended as a diss.
Cardi and Latto had previously collaborated on ErrTime (Remix) from Cardi’s album Am I the Drama? (Ultimate Edition). In her X post, Cardi reiterated her respect for Latto and her team, saying: “I’m not too prideful to apologise to somebody I really respect… this is my public apology, and now I’ll privately buy her a bag.”
Both rappers were pregnant when the original call was leaked. Cardi B welcomed a son with Stefon Diggs in November 2025, while Latto gave birth to a daughter with 21 Savage this spring.
The rappers have not spoken since the phone call, but Cardi expressed hope that they can eventually reconcile.
