CBN Gov Cardoso Named Africa’s Greatest at 2025 African Banker Awards

Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Olayemi Cardoso, has been honoured as Central {Bank} Governor of the 12 months on the 2025 African Banker Awards, held in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.

The distinguished accolade, conferred by African Banker journal throughout a high-level gala on Wednesday, recognised Cardoso’s “daring and strategic” financial and regulatory reforms which have restored confidence and stability in Nigeria’s {financial} system.

In an announcement issued by the CBN on Thursday, the Awards Committee credited the popularity to Cardoso’s management in stabilising the naira, enhancing transparency within the overseas trade market, and rebuilding coverage credibility.

“These efforts have laid the groundwork for long-term macroeconomic resilience and renewed investor confidence,” the assertion learn.

Accepting the award on behalf of the CBN Governor was Dr. Nkiru Balonwu, Adviser on Stakeholder Engagement and Strategic Communication. She was joined on stage by prime CBN officers together with Victor Oboh, Director of Financial Coverage; Olubukola Akinwumi, Director of Banking Supervision; and Aloysius Uche Ordu, a member of the Financial Coverage Committee.

“The award displays the Committee’s recognition of Governor Cardoso’s latest achievements and the Central {Bank}’s essential function in addressing market imbalances and repositioning the Nigerian financial system for sustainable development,” the organisers said.

Now in its nineteenth 12 months, the African Banker Awards are held yearly in partnership with the African Growth {Bank} Group.
