The Central Bank of Nigeria has ordered that each one Point of Sale (PoS) terminals throughout the nation be geo-tagged inside 60 days to strengthen safety in digital transactions.
“This initiative is designed to make sure that all PoS terminals are traceable and that transactions are safe.
“Terminals operating outside their registered location will be flagged, and non-compliant devices will be deactivated,” the CBN stated in a press release dated August 26, 2025.
According to the directive, all present and newly deployed PoS units have to be fitted with native geolocation options and double-frequency GPS receivers for correct monitoring.
Terminals that fail to adjust to the October 20, 2025, deadline might be disabled.

The apex {bank} defined that the choice will assist eradicate cloned or “ghost” terminals and allow real-time monitoring of digital transactions.
