Celtic have offered Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho a new two-year contract as the Scottish champions move to keep the Nigerian forward at the club beyond the expiration of his current deal.
According to Afrik-Foot, negotiations between both parties are ongoing after Iheanacho played a key role in Celtic’s domestic double-winning campaign last season.
The report says the proposed contract is worth about £4.42 million, including bonuses, which is estimated at around ₦8.2 billion at current exchange rates.
Contract details emerge
Under the reported terms, Iheanacho would earn a basic weekly salary of £35,000.
The package includes an annual salary of about £1.82 million, giving the striker a basic two-year income of approximately £3.64 million.
Performance-related bonuses worth £780,000 would increase the overall value of the contract to £4.42 million.
Celtic’s offer underlines the club’s confidence in the 29-year-old despite concerns over his fitness during parts of last season.
Manager Martin O’Neill has already confirmed that discussions over Iheanacho’s future are continuing.
Future decision awaits
Iheanacho rewarded Celtic’s faith with nine goals in all competitions last season, including a late winning penalty against Motherwell and crucial goals in both the Scottish Cup semi-final and final.
His performances helped the club secure a domestic double and strengthened his case for a new contract.
A new deal would also allow the former Manchester City striker to continue playing UEFA Champions League football while maintaining his place in contention for the Super Eagles ahead of future Africa Cup of Nations and World Cup campaigns.
However, the Nigerian is yet to make a final decision.
Reports claim clubs in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkey and Major League Soccer are monitoring his situation and could present more lucrative financial offers.
Playing time is also expected to be a major factor in Iheanacho’s decision after he was often used as a substitute last season while managing recurring fitness issues.
For now, Celtic remain hopeful of securing the striker’s signature as they prepare for the 2026/27 campaign.
