Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez has been offered to Chelsea by his representatives, with the Stamford Bridge club considering whether to make a move for the Argentina international.

According to a report by TheAthletic, Martinez’s future at Villa Park remains uncertain after a proposed transfer to Juventus collapsed earlier this month despite talks between the two clubs.

Villa have since signed Zion Suzuki from Parma as their new first-choice goalkeeper, while Marco Bizot started their Premier League opener against Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday.

Chelsea, meanwhile, began their campaign with Robert Sanchez in goal, but the Spaniard endured a difficult outing against Fulham on Monday, making errors that contributed to both goals in their 3-2 defeat to Xabi Alonso’s side.

The London club also have 21-year-old goalkeeper Mike Penders, who returned this summer after spending last season on loan at Strasbourg, where he impressed. Penders was among the substitutes at Craven Cottage.

This is the second consecutive summer in which Martinez has sought an exit from Villa. Manchester United held talks over a move for the goalkeeper last year and made a late loan offer that was rejected before eventually signing Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp.

Martinez played a key role in Villa’s strong campaign last season, helping them secure a fourth-place finish in the Premier League and win the Europa League.

The results mean Unai Emery’s side will return to the Champions League this season.

The 33-year-old also played every match for Argentina during their run to the World Cup final, where they lost 1-0 to Spain, featuring in all eight games of the tournament.

Martinez has made 256 appearances for Villa since joining from Arsenal in September 2020.

His departure would add to significant changes at Villa this summer, with Morgan Rogers, Youri Tielemans, Ezri Konsa and Lucas Digne also leaving the club.
