Jesse Derry has issued an emotional update after being hospitalised following a serious head collision on his full debut for Chelsea.
The 18-year-old winger was stretchered off unconscious during Chelsea’s 3-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest at Stamford Bridge, prompting immediate concern from teammates, staff and supporters.
“A dream come true” despite scare
Taking to Instagram, Derry reassured fans with a positive message after receiving treatment.
“A dream come true to start at Stamford Bridge for my Premier League debut,” he wrote.
“I’d like to thank all the Chelsea medical staff, everyone at St Mary’s hospital, my teammates, and all the fans for their great support. I can’t wait to be back playing in front of everyone very soon.”
Football world rallies around youngster
Support quickly followed from across the football community. Teammates including Marc Cucurella and Josh Acheampong sent messages, while Zach Abbott, who was involved in the collision, also wished him well.
Young talents like Chris Rigg joined in showing support as well.
Bright debut cut short
Before the incident, Derry had been one of Chelsea’s standout performers. He showed composure under pressure, linked effectively with Joao Pedro and Enzo Fernandez, and consistently drove at defenders.
His movement and direct style drew comparisons to Jack Grealish. However, the player’s immediate priority now is full recovery.
