The City Boy Movement has said the introduction of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses is providing relief for commuters in Abuja by reducing transport fares on some routes.

According to the movement, fares on the Banex route, which previously ranged between N1,000 and N1,500, have dropped to between N600 and N700 following the deployment of CNG buses.
The group said the reduction in fares was easing pressure on commuters while also creating better earning opportunities for commercial transport operators.
“CNG buses are bringing real relief to commuters in Abuja, with fares at Banex dropping from N1,000 to N1,500 to as low as N600 to N700,” the statement said.

The City Boy Movement said lower transportation costs would leave commuters with more disposable income for other needs.
“Cheaper transport means more money in people’s pockets and better days for commercial drivers,” it added.
The group attributed the development to the CNG programme of the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“This is the impact of the CNG programme under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. More buses, more routes and more savings,” the statement said.
The Federal Government’s CNG initiative is aimed at expanding access to cheaper and cleaner transportation while reducing the impact of high petrol costs on Nigerians.
President Bola Tinubu had earlier disclosed that more Nigerians should begin to benefit from reduced transportation costs from October 1, as the Federal Government and state governments intensify efforts to expand cheaper energy-powered public transport.
Tinubu disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, following an August 27 meeting with the governors of the 36 states, where he said they agreed on the objective of achieving measurable reductions in transportation costs from October 1.
The President said an implementation committee for the National Affordable CNG Transit Programme was subsequently established under the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, NGF, and chaired by the Kwara State Governor and Chairman of the Forum, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
According to Tinubu, the committee, alongside PI-CNG, state governments and other stakeholders, is working to identify priority transport corridors, determine appropriate interventions and make the necessary arrangements ahead of the October 1 target.
He said the need to accelerate the programme had become more urgent amid the current global energy crisis and rising petrol and diesel prices.
