Couple arrested for beating teenager to death over missing money in Kaduna

The Kaduna State Police Command has detained a couple over the alleged death of a teenager in the Kurmin-Mashi area of Kaduna metropolis.

The command’s spokesman, DSP Mansir Hassan, made this known on Monday, June 29, 2026, saying an investigation had commenced to determine the circumstances surrounding the death.

Hassan said the incident, which occurred along Dahiru Road in Kurmin-Mashi on Sunday night, involved a boy identified as Sadiq.

Hassan stated that preliminary information revealed that the teenager was allegedly subjected to punishment by his mother and stepfather over a dispute relating to missing money.

He said the police received reports that the boy had been sent to withdraw money from a Point-of-Sale (PoS) operator before questions later arose over the transaction.

“The suspects are currently in police custody while an investigation is ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine the next line of action,” the police spokesman said.

The residents expressed shock over the teenager’s death and called for a thorough investigation into the matter.
