The hearing in the ongoing suit filed by former Kano State commissioners over the retrieval of official vehicles, scheduled for Tuesday, did not hold as scheduled.
SolaceBase gathered at the court on Tuesday that the development was due to a general adjournment of cases fixed for the week.
“All the cases slated for this week have been adjourned. The commissioners’ case has now been fixed for May 25, 2026,” a court official explained.
The latest adjournment follows an earlier sitting of the National Industrial Court, presided over by Justice Mahmood Abba Namtari, where April 28, 2026, was initially fixed for hearing.
SolaceBase recalls that at that sitting, the court also awarded a cost of N200,000 against the respondents in each of the five sister cases after their counsel sought an adjournment to enable them to file the necessary processes.
Counsel to the Kano State Government, Barrister S. U. Jibril, had told the court he was only briefed shortly before the proceedings and needed more time to prepare the required documents.

However, counsel to the former commissioners, Suraj Sa’ed, SAN, did not oppose the adjournment but urged the court to award costs, arguing that the respondents had ample time to respond to the suit.
Justice Namtari, while granting the adjournment, awarded costs against the respondents and directed that the matter be heard on the new date.
The suits were filed by Dr. Yusuf Ibrahim K/Mata, AVM Ibrahim Umar (Rtd), Nasir Sule Garo, Adamu Aliyu Kibiya and Mustapha Rabi’u Kwankwaso, all former commissioners, seeking to restrain the Kano State Government from retrieving official vehicles allocated to them during their tenure.
They listed as defendants the Attorney General of Kano State, the Governor of Kano State and the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission.
