The Brikama Magistrate’s Court in Gambia has sentenced a female student Fatima Jarju to three years’ imprisonment after finding her guilty of attempted m8rder and causing bodily harm in connection with the st@bbing of her teacher, Mr. Jatta.
The judgment, delivered by Magistrate Peter Adoh Che, on Thursday, July 9, 2026 brought to an end the court proceedings after six hearings.
The final hearing attracted students and teachers from different schools, who gathered at the Brikama Magistrate’s Court to witness the judgment and show solidarity with Mr. Jatta, the victim in the case.
According to the case before the court, Mr. Jatta was allegedly st@bbed by his student, Fatima Jarju, at Yunus English School on December 10, 2026.
The incident shocked the school community and drew widespread public attention.
After considering the evidence presented during the trial, Magistrate Peter Adoh Che found Fatima Jarju guilty of attempted murder and causing bodily harm.
The court sentenced her to three years’ imprisonment and imposed a fine of D300,000.
The judgment concludes a case that has been closely followed by members of the public, particularly within the education sector, where concerns have been raised about the safety of teachers in schools.
