Customers regain access as MTN reopens airtime loan service

MTN Nigeria has brought back its XtraTime service, giving relief to millions of customers who depend on it to borrow airtime when their balance is low or during emergencies.

The service allows eligible users to get airtime loans and repay when they next recharge. It was temporarily stopped after new compliance rules were introduced by the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC).

MTN had earlier announced the suspension in a notice signed by its Company Secretary, Uto Ukpanah, informing the Nigerian Exchange and the public that both airtime and data credit services were paused.

Now, the company has confirmed that the service has been restored. Customers received a text message stating that they can once again access airtime loans.

The message reads: “Good news! Airtime loan is back! You can now borrow up to N1,295 by dialing *303# and stay connected.”
