The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), in collaboration with the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS), has trained its officers and personnel on the Federal Government’s new tax policies as part of efforts to strengthen compliance with evolving fiscal reforms.
According to Deputy Comptroller-General of Customs in charge of Finance, Administration and Technical Services, DCG Kikelomo Adeola, who represented the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, at the opening of the two-day programme in Abuja, the training became necessary following recent changes in the nation’s tax administration framework.
She said the programme, held between June 17 and 18, 2026, at the Service Headquarters in Maitama, Abuja, brought together members of the Customs management team, Comptrollers, Superintendents and other officers.
“As a Service entrusted with a critical role in national revenue generation, we must remain abreast of evolving tax policies and ensure strict compliance with our statutory obligations. This training is designed to equip our officers with the requisite knowledge to navigate the new tax regime effectively and uphold the highest standards of professionalism and accountability,” Adeola said.
She stressed that tax compliance goes beyond statutory requirements, describing it as a reflection of transparency, accountability and commitment to national development.
“By investing in the capacity of our personnel, we are positioning the Service to adapt seamlessly to emerging fiscal reforms while sustaining public confidence in our operations,” she added.
Also speaking, Assistant Director of Tax at the Nigeria Revenue Service, Victoria Udo, noted that the Pay-As-You-Earn (PAYE) system remains one of the most dependable mechanisms for collecting personal income tax.
Udo urged participants to take full advantage of the training through active engagement and knowledge sharing, noting that a better understanding of the new tax laws would improve efficiency in the discharge of their duties.
The training forms part of ongoing efforts by the Nigeria Customs Service to enhance institutional capacity and ensure compliance with the Federal Government’s fiscal and revenue policies.
