The Committee of Youth on Mobilization and Sensitization (CYMS) has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene in the ongoing dispute involving Winhomes Global Services Limited and diaspora investors affected by the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road project.
In a communiqué issued on Thursday, the group expressed concern over the prolonged nature of the matter, noting that it has remained unresolved for over two years.
According to CYMS, the situation highlights the need for clarity, due process, and timely resolution in matters involving investments, particularly those with international stakeholders.
The group also referenced comments attributed to the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, regarding the demolition of a property linked to the dispute. CYMS said the remarks underscore the importance of clear communication and adherence to established procedures in decisions affecting private investments.
“If this statement is accurate, it necessitates immediate clarification from the highest levels of government to ensure that due process has been observed and that actions taken align with established legal standards,” the communiqué stated.
CYMS noted that the case has attracted attention within and outside Nigeria, adding that how it is handled could influence investor confidence and perceptions of the country’s business environment.
The group urged the Federal Government to provide further details on the circumstances surrounding the demolition, including its legal basis and the processes followed.
It also called for a prompt and fair resolution of the dispute in line with applicable laws, stressing the importance of protecting both local and foreign investments.
“We therefore urge Mr. President to intervene in this matter… to clarify the authorization for the demolition, ensure proper procedures were followed, and guarantee fair and prompt compensation for all affected parties,” the group stated.
In addition, CYMS appealed for calm among stakeholders, including members of the diaspora, while encouraging continued engagement through appropriate channels.
The organisation said it would continue to monitor developments and advocate for transparency, accountability, and adherence to due process in the handling of the matter.
