Juventus have reached an agreement to sign Newcastle United forward Nick Woltemade on a season-long loan before Tuesday’s transfer deadline.
The Serie A club will pay around £3.5 million for the temporary deal, which does not include an option or obligation to make the transfer permanent.
Woltemade is expected to travel to Turin for a medical before completing the move.
Woltemade set for Juventus switch
The 24-year-old joined Newcastle from Stuttgart in August 2025 for a club-record £69m fee but has struggled to secure a regular starting role under new manager Matthias Jaissle.
Woltemade has started only one of Newcastle’s first three matches this season, although he made an impact from the bench during Saturday’s 2-0 Premier League victory at Tottenham.
The Germany international came on during the second half and provided the assist for Yoane Wissa to score Newcastle’s second goal.
Despite his limited starts, Woltemade attracted interest from several clubs across Europe before Juventus eventually won the race for his signature.
Juventus choose Woltemade over Zirkzee
Juventus had been searching for another forward as Jonathan David prepares to join Atletico Madrid on loan.
The Italian club also held talks with Manchester United over Joshua Zirkzee, but a potential move to Fiorentina failed to materialise and Juventus ultimately decided against pursuing the Dutchman.
Woltemade emerged as their preferred option because of his suitability to the squad and the lower cost of the deal.
Juventus were also unwilling to commit to a permanent transfer, while Manchester United had reportedly wanted an obligation to buy included in any agreement for Zirkzee.
Newcastle’s decision to sanction Woltemade’s temporary departure is also linked to their move for Lille forward Matias Fernandez-Pardo.
Fernandez-Pardo travelled to Tyneside on Monday to complete a move worth up to £55m, potentially giving Newcastle additional attacking depth while allowing Woltemade to gain regular football in Italy.
The German forward will now undergo his medical before completing his move to Juventus.
