Meanwhile, Venezuela’s Environment Ministry said it is making progress on an environmental recovery plan aimed at restoring coastal areas in La Guaira, one of the regions hardest hit by the disaster.
In a statement on Instagram, the ministry said native plant species would be introduced to help restore the coastline’s ecological balance and rehabilitate the local ecosystem.
Environment Minister Nelson Rodriguez said the twin earthquakes generated an estimated 2.106 million tonnes of debris in the affected area.
He said the estimate was based on a modelling study conducted jointly by the Venezuelan government and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
The twin earthquakes, measuring magnitudes 7.2 and 7.5, struck the South American country on June 24.
