Did Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian resign over IRGC control claims? What’s the truth behind shocking report?

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has reportedly submitted a resignation letter to the office of the Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, saying he no longer holds sufficient authority within the country’s governing structure to perform his duties. Fox News reported, citing several reports, that Pezeshkian stated in the letter that he and his administration have effectively been excluded from key decision-making processes. But did he actually offer to step down? Here’s the truth

Did Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian resign?

Iranian authorities and state-aligned media have dismissed the report claiming Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian has offered to step down over the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ (IRGC) unchecked influence in the country’s wartime decision-making.

“Continuation of previous ridiculous media games”

In a post on X, Seyed Mehdi Tabatabaei, deputy head of communications for the president’s office, denied the report, calling it a “media game.” The IRGC-linked Tasnim news agency also reported, citing an “informed govt source,” that this is a baseless rumor, according to Iran International.

“The rumour-mongering by the disreputable foreign network is a continuation of previous ridiculous media games. They have published their own wishful thinking in place of reality. President Pezeshkian will not retreat from serving the people, just as the Iranian nation will not step back from the path of solidarity and resistance. They will take their wish to shatter the unity of the Iranian nation to the grave,” he said.
