Minister of Works, David Umahi, has urged residents of the South-East to vote for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
Umahi made the appeal while inspecting the ongoing 65-kilometre Afikpo-Uturu-Okigwe road project in Okigwe, Imo State, urging the region to support the president based on infrastructure projects being executed under his administration.
The minister argued that South-East votes alone could not make Peter Obi president, urging residents to adopt what he described as a strategic approach to the 2027 election.
Umahi explains why South-East should support Tinubu
Umahi acknowledged his relationship with Obi, describing the former Anambra governor as his friend and colleague, but maintained that he would campaign for Tinubu.
The minister said, “The South East must vote for President Bola Tinubu in 2027. The South East must know that our vote alone cannot make our brother, His Excellency Peter Obi, to be president. No, we have to be strategic.”
He also urged residents to appreciate what he described as the Federal Government’s infrastructure interventions in the region.
Umahi further said, “I boldly say do not vote for His Excellency Peter Obi, vote for President Bola Tinubu.”
Tinubu’s road projects highlighted
The minister also drew attention to the challenging mountainous section of the Afikpo-Uturu-Okigwe road, saying its removal would improve safety and reduce accidents.
Umahi said, “This mountain, by the command of President Bola Tinubu, must collapse for the people of the South East.”
More than 20 kilometres of the 65-kilometre project has reportedly been completed. The road is being executed under the Federal Government’s tax-credit scheme, with Dangote Industries Limited as sponsor and Hi-Tech Construction as contractor.
The minister’s comments have added to the political debate ahead of the 2027 election, particularly over voting patterns and federal infrastructure in the South-East.
