Donald Trump issues big statement, claims US close to ‘good deal’ with Iran, says ‘if we don’t get what we want…’

US President Donald Trump has said that the United States and Iran are “very close” to reaching a “very good deal,” but warned that if Washington does not get what it wants, the situation will be handled “in a different way.”

His remarks came during an interview with his daughter-in-law Lara Trump, which was aired on Fox News on Saturday night.

“We’re close to a very good deal. If you’re going to be in a hurry, you’re not going to make a good deal,” Trump said. “Slowly but surely, we’re getting what we want — and if we don’t get what we want, we’re going to end it a different way.”

What Did Trump Say About Iran’s Position?

Trump described Iran as “good negotiators” but said the United States now has strong leverage. He claimed Iran has been “militarily defeated,” giving Washington an advantage in the talks.

He also said Iran has denied developing nuclear weapons, but raised concerns about the possibility of them acquiring one in the future. “What happens if you buy a nuclear weapon?” he said, stressing that any agreement must clearly prevent both development and purchase of nuclear arms.

What Is Holding the Deal Back?

According to reports, Trump has asked his team to revise parts of the draft agreement negotiated by US and Iranian officials. Key concerns include strict controls over Iran’s enriched uranium and clearer terms on how the United States would access nuclear material.

Another disputed issue involves the wording around the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global energy route that carries nearly one-fifth of the world’s oil supply.

A senior US official told Axios that Iran is expected to respond within a few days, while negotiations continue over technical details.

What Happens Next in US-Iran Talks?

Trump recently met top military and cabinet officials in the Situation Room, but no final decision was announced. While he expressed optimism about sealing a deal soon, he indicated that discussions could continue for several more days as both sides refine the terms.
