Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten and his D66 party have used artificial intelligence to help write hundreds of social media posts, according to an investigation.
The investigation examined 1,812 unique posts published on X, Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn since 2021.
It concluded that at least 232 posts showed signs of AI generation. This included 68 posts from Jetten’s accounts and 164 from D66 accounts.
The newspaper used an AI detection programme called Pangram. Three experts also reviewed the investigation.
The findings suggest that Jetten and D66 increased their use of AI from June 4, 2025, one day after the Schoof Cabinet collapsed.
From that date, investigators classified about 30 percent of their posts as AI-generated.
The investigation also found signs of AI use in at least one and a half pages of Jetten’s book, Hoe het wél kan. Scripts from three D66 campaign videos were also flagged.
Some posts covered sensitive subjects. These included the war in Ukraine, the MH17 disaster commemoration and the Dutch government’s apology to the Moluccan community.
D66 confirmed that it uses artificial intelligence to assist with some content.
“We use AI as a tool, just as so many Dutch people do,” the party said.
D66 stated that staff members supervise, review and improve every post. It also said Jetten provides the original information and personally approves posts published under his name.
Jetten did not respond directly to questions about the investigation.
University of Amsterdam professor Claes de Vreese warned that using AI for personal messages could damage Jetten’s credibility and reduce public trust in political communication.
AI detection tools can produce incorrect results. Therefore, the figures represent the investigation’s findings and do not independently prove that AI wrote every identified post.
