The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has urged political stakeholders in Ebonyi State to close ranks and adopt a consensus approach ahead of the 2027 general elections.
His intervention follows tensions in Ebonyi Central linked to succession discussions involving the incumbent senator, Ken Eze, and an aspirant from Ikwo, Chief Christian Asaga Nwali.
Umahi, who met with both sides, described the situation as avoidable and warned against actions that could deepen divisions within the political structure of the state.
He advised the parties to channel their grievances through the Governor of Ebonyi State, Francis Nwifuru, noting that a collective decision involving key leaders would ensure fairness and stability.
The minister stressed that political ambition must be guided by broader interests, adding that unity remains critical as the state prepares for the next election cycle.
Umahi also linked internal cohesion to electoral performance, expressing confidence that Ebonyi could deliver over 95 per cent of its votes for President Tinubu.
He said ongoing consultations would focus on producing consensus candidates for National Assembly seats, while maintaining alignment with the state leadership.
The minister further reaffirmed support for the governor, cautioning against any political moves that could undermine his position.
He called on supporters to avoid inflammatory rhetoric, particularly on social media, and to prioritise peace as stakeholders work towards a common goal.
