Deputy Speaker of the Edo State Home of Meeting, Mrs Maria Oligbi-Edeko, has stepped down from her place following her social gathering’s lack of majority.
Oligbi-Edeko, who represents Esan North-East II, on Monday, Could 19, introduced her resignation throughout plenary session in Benin Metropolis.
Her resolution got here after a wave of defections from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), together with the defection of the Speaker.
In her resignation letter to the Home, she acknowledged, “My resignation is to permit justice, equity, and fairness for all of the constituencies.”
The Home instantly elected Mr Osamwonyi Atu, member representing Orhionmwon East underneath the APC, as the brand new Deputy Speaker after a unanimous vote.

Oligbi-Edeko, who was elected Deputy Speaker on June 16, 2023, thanked PDP leaders and colleagues for the chance to serve.
“I commend the leaders and members of the PDP for locating me worthy to symbolize my constituency within the Meeting,” she stated.
The Majority Chief, Hon. Jonathan Aigbokhan, moved a movement that Oligbi-Edeko ought to obtain all entitlements because of the workplace of Deputy Speaker.
The movement, seconded by Minority Chief Hon. Charity Airobarueghian, was unanimously adopted by the Home.
Fellow lawmakers praised her dedication and dedication to public service.
