The Federal Ministry of Education has disowned an association operating as the National Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) of the Federal Unity Colleges, saying it is neither recognised nor authorised to represent the schools or their PTAs.
The Ministry made this known in a statement by Boriowo Folasade, Director, Press and Public Relations, on Monday, September 21.
According to the Ministry, the association does not represent individual PTAs in the 118 Federal Unity Colleges across the country and has no mandate to speak on behalf of the colleges, parents, guardians or students.
It therefore urged members of the public to disregard any directive, appeal, statement or communication issued by the group.
“The association operating under the name National Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) of the Federal Unity Colleges is not recognised or authorised by the Ministry and does not represent the individual PTAs in the 118 Federal Unity Colleges nationwide,” the statement said.
The Ministry added that the group “has no mandate to speak on behalf of the Colleges, their PTAs, parents or guardians.”
“Consequently, any statement, directive, appeal or communication issued by the association has no official standing and should be disregarded by the public,” it added.
The Federal Ministry of Education advised parents and guardians to rely only on communications issued by the Ministry and the management of their respective Federal Unity Colleges on matters relating to schools, students and academic activities.
The Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, also urged parents and guardians to ensure that their children and wards have returned to their respective Federal Unity Colleges as the 2026/2027 academic session has commenced nationwide.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to the effective administration of the Federal Unity Colleges and providing students with “a safe, conducive and supportive environment for learning and overall development throughout the academic session.”
