Officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Saturday visited the polling unit of Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, amid concerns over alleged vote-buying in the governorship election.
According to Sahara Reporters, about 10 EFCC operatives arrived at Polling Unit 003, Ward 06, Ikogosi, in Ekiti West Local Government Area, around 9:05 am.
The anti-graft officials were seen monitoring activities around the polling centre shortly after voting commenced at about 8:30 am.
Although the operatives did not immediately disclose the reason for their deployment, their presence came amid heightened scrutiny of the election process and allegations of voter inducement in parts of the state.
The polling unit has 668 registered voters.
As of the time of filing this report, EFCC officials were stationed within and around the polling area, observing electoral activities and interacting with security personnel.
There was no immediate report of any arrest or disruption of voting.
The development followed repeated warnings by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), civil society groups and anti-corruption agencies against vote-buying and other electoral offences.
The Ekiti governorship election is taking place across the state’s 16 local government areas, with Governor Oyebanji seeking re-election against opposition party candidates.
