The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Kano Strategic Command has arrested 38 suspects during a two-day crackdown on drug-related activities across several parts of Kano metropolis as part of efforts to strengthen security ahead of the Eid al-Kabir celebrations.
The operation, carried out under the ongoing “Operation Sharar Mafaka,” was led by the Kano Strategic Commander, CN DY Lawal.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Public Relations Officer of the command, Assistant Superintendent of Narcotics Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari, said the raid was intensified to prevent criminal groups from taking advantage of the festive period to engage in illegal activities.
According to the statement, operatives stormed several identified drug hotspots across the city, including Fagge, Filin Idi, Gyadi Gyadi, Hotoro, Tashar Rami, Audu Bako Secretariat, Hauren Gadagi, Kofar Mata, Sheka and Farm Center.
The agency disclosed that various illicit substances and dangerous items were recovered during the operation. Items seized included cannabis sativa, Exol-5, diazepam, “Suck and Die,” rubber solution and locally fabricated weapons.

Speaking on the success of the exercise, CN DY Lawal said the command remained determined to rid Kano streets of drug-related crimes, especially during festive periods.
“We have intensified enforcement ahead of the Sallah celebrations because some criminal elements often use such occasions to expand their illegal activities. We will continue raiding these drug joints until our communities are safe,” he said.
He added that the command would sustain similar operations to ensure residents enjoy peaceful Eid celebrations without threats linked to drug abuse and criminality.
The operation, according to the statement, aligns with the directive of the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the agency, Brig.-Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.), aimed at ensuring safer communities across the country.
The suspects arrested during the raids are currently in custody while investigations continue. The agency said those found culpable would be prosecuted accordingly.
The Kano Strategic Command also called on residents to support the fight against drug abuse and trafficking by reporting suspicious activities within their communities.
