The Federal Road Safety Corps has advised motorists to divert to the Kachia–Bwari route following heavy congestion on the Abuja–Kaduna Highway ahead of the Eid el-Kabir celebrations.
In a statement issued in Kaduna, the FRSC said the gridlock is driven by increased festive travel, ongoing road construction, and recent rainfall, which have slowed movement along the busy corridor.
Kaduna Sector Commander, Corps Commander Andrew Longkam, identified the Nasarawa Azara stretch between Katari and Jere towns as the worst-affected section, with traffic described as slow and difficult.
The corps also blamed the situation on poor driving habits, including impatience and disregard for lane discipline by some motorists.
To ease the situation, the FRSC said it has deployed additional personnel for traffic control, working in collaboration with the Nigerian Army and other stakeholders.
Despite these efforts, the agency warned that traffic remains heavy and urged road users to remain patient, comply with traffic rules, and cooperate with officials on duty.
Motorists travelling from Kaduna to Abuja have been advised to take the alternative route through Kachia, Maraban Kubacha, Jere, Bwari, and Dutse, while those heading in the opposite direction are encouraged to follow the same route in reverse.
The corps further cautioned against dangerous overtaking and one-way driving, urging drivers to maintain lane discipline and ensure their vehicles are roadworthy before embarking on trips.
It also recommended avoiding night journeys where possible, adhering to speed limits, and following all traffic regulations.
The FRSC reiterated its commitment to ensuring road safety, smoother traffic flow, and reduced accidents during the festive period and beyond.
