The Federal Government has announced Wednesday, 27th May, and Thursday, 28th May, 2026, as public holidays to mark the Eid ul-Adha celebration.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr Magdalene Ajani, on Monday in Abuja.
According to the statement, the declaration reflects the Federal Government’s recognition of the religious devotion and spiritual heritage of Muslims in Nigeria and across the world who are observing the sacred festival.
Tunji-Ojo extended the Federal Government’s felicitations to Muslim faithful in Nigeria and the diaspora, describing Eid ul-Adha as a period rooted in sacrifice, obedience to God, and compassion for humanity.
The statement also urged Nigerians to use the occasion for prayers and sober reflection, seeking divine guidance for the nation as it continues its pursuit of peace, security, and prosperity.
“It is in the spirit of brotherhood, shared humanity, and national unity that the Federal Government wishes all Muslims a peaceful, blessed, and joyous celebration,” the statement added.
