The Emir of Ilorin and Chairman of the Kwara State Traditional Rulers Council, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, has approved the appointment of Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Dasuki Imam Fulani as the 13th Chief Imam of Ilorin Emirate.
This was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Emir’s spokesman, Dr Abdulazeez Arowona.
SolaceBase reports that his appointment was sequel to the death of the 12th Chief Imam, Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Salihu on January 19, 2026, at the age of 75.
The statement said the appointment followed a rigorous selection process in which Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Dasuki Imam Fulani emerged successful among several distinguished scholars who vied for the prestigious spiritual leadership position.
The new Chief Imam succeeds Alhaji Muhammad Bashir Imam, who died on January 19, 2026.
Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Dasuki, aged 42, is a grandson of the eighth Chief Imam of Ilorin, Sheikh Ibrahim Dasuki Imam Fulani Agaka, and the son of the 10th Chief Imam of Ilorin, Sheikh Maliki bn Dasuki Agaka.

Prior to his appointment, Sheikh Muhammad Bashir was the founder and proprietor of Darul Bisharah Arabic and Islamic Studies, Airport Egbejila, Ilorin. He also served as the Imam leading daily and weekly Jumu’ah prayers at Afusat Oloriegbe Memorial Mosque, Oko Olowo, Ilorin.
Additionally, he is a presenter of the Al-Bisharah Islamic Foundation radio programme on Radio Kwara during Ramadan and teaches at Darul Kitab College of Arabic and Islamic Studies, Gaa Akanbi, Ilorin.
The new Chief Imam attended Al-Hikmah University, where he is currently studying for a Master’s degree in Islamic Studies. He also attended Al-Azhar University, Cairo, Egypt, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Islamic Shari’ah in 2014, and Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (Institute of Education), where he obtained a Diploma in Arabic Islamic Education.
He also attended Darul Kitab wa Sunnah, Gaa Akanbi, Ilorin, in 2007, as well as Oke Suna LGEA Primary School, Ilorin.
Alhaji Sulu-Gambari prayed for the successful reign of the new Chief Imam, wishing him long life, sound health, and divine wisdom to effectively pilot the affairs of the Muslim Ummah.
