Today, May 1, 2026 marks a day of double celebrations as we step into a new month and observe Workers’ Day across the world.

I, Hon. Tony Nwobodo of Amechi in Enugu South Local Government Area of Enugu State, heartily congratulate His Excellency, Governor Dr Peter Ndubuisi Mbah and the good people of Enugu State on this special occasion.

On Workers’ Day Celebration, I humbly join you in celebrating Workers’ Day, a day dedicated to acknowledging the invaluable contributions of workers to the progress and development of our state and nation.

Your Excellency, you have consistently prioritized worker welfare most notably and earning praise from organised labour (NLC/TUC) as a highly worker-friendly leader. You focus on regular salary/pension payments, gratuity clearing, and promoting industrial harmony. You initiated payment of long-standing gratuity arrears, set aside monthly funds for pension payments, and approved promotions and conversions for thousands of workers. Infrastructure for Workers: Provided Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses to aid transportation and upgraded infrastructure at the State Secretariat Complex.

Indeed, your economic vision is per excellence as you emphasized that enhancing workers’ welfare is central to boosting productivity, with a goal to shift the state’s GDP from $4.4 billion to over $30 billion, aiming to reduce poverty through an inspired workforce.
