Arsenal made a strong start to their Premier League title defence, cruising to a 3-0 victory over newly promoted Coventry City at the Emirates Stadium on Friday night.
Mikel Arteta’s side controlled the contest from the opening whistle and quickly demonstrated why they are among the leading contenders to retain the league crown.
Havertz and Saka put Arsenal in control
Arsenal broke the deadlock after 15 minutes when Kai Havertz converted Riccardo Calafiori’s low cross, with the Germany international starting ahead of Viktor Gyokeres.
The hosts doubled their advantage eight minutes later after Coventry goalkeeper Carl Rushworth failed to hold Christos Tzolis’ delivery into the box.
Bukayo Saka reacted quickest to the loose ball and calmly finished into an empty net to give Arsenal a commanding lead before half-time.

Tzolis, who joined Arsenal during the summer, was heavily involved in the hosts’ attacking play and continued to provide a threat from the left flank.
The Greek winger had already tested Coventry early in the match, cutting inside before sending an effort over the crossbar.
Odegaard completes comfortable victory
Arsenal needed only four minutes after the restart to extend their advantage.
Martin Odegaard collected Ben White’s pass inside the penalty area before beating Rushworth with a low finish, although the Arsenal captain did not make clean contact with the ball.
The third goal effectively ended any realistic prospect of a Coventry comeback as Arsenal continued to dominate possession and territory.
Frank Lampard’s side struggled to create meaningful opportunities against the reigning champions and managed just one shot on target throughout the match.
Arsenal were without new signing Bruno Guimaraes, who missed the fixture through injury, but his absence did little to disrupt the hosts’ control of the game.
The result gives Arsenal an ideal start to their campaign as they begin their bid to retain the Premier League title, while Coventry face an early indication of the scale of the challenge awaiting them after returning to the top flight following a 25-year absence.
