Mujahid Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, son of the immediate past Deputy Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, has petitioned the Kano State Police Command over alleged defamatory remarks made against him by Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the spokesperson to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
SolaceBase reports that the petition, dated June 17, 2026, was filed through the law firm of A.A. Shirawa, Nasirudeen & Partners and signed by Barrister Nazifi Yusuf Gorondutse.
According to the petition, Sunusi Bature, who serves as the Director-General, Media and Publicity to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, allegedly made statements during a political gathering in Kano on June 13, accusing Mujahid Gwarzo of facilitating the collection of a gratuity fund, popularly known as “Awwalaja,” from the 44 local government chairmen in the state.

The petition further alleged that Sunusi Bature claimed the funds were handed over to Mujahid’s father, the former Deputy Governor and former Commissioner for Local Government, and that the money was used to acquire plots of land and farmlands.
The complainant’s lawyers argued that the allegations were circulated through a viral video clip on social media and had caused significant damage to their client’s reputation.
The legal team therefore urged the police to investigate the matter and take appropriate action over what they described as criminal defamation and character assassination.
The development is the latest episode in the growing political exchanges between key actors in Kano State as political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections continue to intensify.
