Ex-PDP deputy governorship candidate in Kano, Danbatta defects to APC

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) deputy governorship candidate in the 2023 Kano State election, Dr Yusuf Bello Danbatta, has formally defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Danbatta, who announced his decision in a statement on Friday, said the move followed extensive consultations with political leaders, associates, supporters and other stakeholders.

He explained that he believes the APC offers a more suitable platform through which he can contribute to the development of Kano State and Nigeria.

SolaceBase reports that the former PDP chieftain said he was particularly inspired by the leadership style of Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, and the administration’s Kano First Agenda.

According to him, the initiative has demonstrated a strong commitment to good governance, human capital development, infrastructure renewal and the overall progress of the state.

“This decision was taken after careful consideration and wide consultations with my leaders, political associates, supporters, and stakeholders,” Danbatta said.

“I am convinced that the APC provides a more suitable platform for me to contribute effectively to the advancement of our people and the development of our state and the nation at large.”

He added that he was equally encouraged by what he described as the growing spirit of inclusiveness within the APC, as well as the party’s commitment to the welfare of citizens.

Danbatta noted that joining the ruling party would provide him with greater opportunities to contribute to policies and programmes aimed at improving the lives of Kano residents and promoting national development.

As he returned to what he described as his political family, the politician reaffirmed his commitment to public service, unity and the pursuit of initiatives that would promote peace, prosperity and sustainable development.

Danbatta also expressed appreciation to members and leaders of the PDP for the relationships and experiences shared during his time in the party.

He said he looked forward to working with APC members and other stakeholders in support of the Kano First Agenda and the continued development of Kano State.
