A former aspirant for Osun West Senatorial District under the All Progressives Congress, Mr Peter Ogundeji, popularly known as APATA, has decamped to the Accord Party ahead of the August 15 gubernatorial election.
NAIJAONPOINT reports that Ogundeji announced his resignation in a letter dated July 11, 2026, addressed to the APC Chairman of Ward 6, Ola, in Ejigbo Local Government Area.
In the letter, he said the decision followed deep personal reflection and extensive consultations with his political associates and supporters.
“Although leaving the party was difficult, I believe it is in the best interest of my political convictions and future aspirations,” Ogundeji wrote.
But reacting on Tuesday, the spokesperson of the party, Kola Olabisi, described the resignation of Ogundeji as “one of our answered prayers” ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
Olabisi, said membership of a political party is voluntary, and no one is coerced to stay.
“Membership of a political party is not by coercion. Anybody is free to join any party of their choice, and Apata’s exit is one of our answered prayers,” Olabisi said.

He added that the party has been praying for God to remove anyone who would be a clog to its victory at the poll.
“We have been praying that whoever will be a clog to the victory of our candidate at the poll, God should remove him, and that is what we are witnessing,” the spokesperson stated.
But APATA’s office, in a statement on Wednesday, said the former senatorial aspirant is not a political adventurer whose relevance began with the APC.
“His political journey was nurtured within the progressive family from an early age and evolved through the Alliance for Democracy, AD, the Action Congress, AC, the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, and ultimately the All Progressives Congress, APC,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, a picture circulating on social media on Friday showed the former APC chieftain wearing the Accord Party fez cap.
Also, some media aides of Governor Adeleke on social media announced that the Ejigbo-born politician has joined the ruling party in the state.
As of the time of this report, Apata has not formally announced his defection to the Accord Party.
