A former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal, has referenced former Vice-President, Yemi Osinbajo, in the events that led to his investigation and eventual removal from office.
Naijaonpoint reports that Lawal alleged that Osinbajo played a role in sustaining pressure over the matter, which he said was repeatedly raised before the Presidency.
According to him, the repeated complaints led to the setting up of investigative panels.
The former SGF maintained that investigations by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) did not establish criminal wrongdoing on his part.
He said those who testified during the investigations did not link him to any crime.
“All of them testified to my innocence… not one of them implicated me either in the contract award process or its execution,” Lawal said.
Lawal said he was discharged and acquitted after a no-case submission. He insisted that no public funds were lost in the contracts investigated.
Reacting to allegations linked to the so-called “grass cutting scandal,” the former SGF said the narrative misrepresented the project carried out during his tenure.
“No money was lost by the government, no bribe was given, and no money was laundered,” he stated.
