Ukraine and Russia have exchanged fresh attacks, with explosions reported in Kiev and a power outage affecting the city of Sevastopol in Crimea, as fighting continued over the eastern town of Kostyantynivka.
More than 10 explosions were heard in Kiev early on Monday during a ballistic missile alert, according to AFP.
“The enemy is striking with ballistic missiles,” Serhiy Popko, head of Kiev’s military administration, wrote on Telegram, while Mayor Vitali Klitschko said air defence systems were operating.
Klitschko later said that the city is under massive attack and one residential building was badly damaged in the attack, and warned that residents could be trapped beneath the rubble.
Meanwhile, the city of Sevastopol was left without electricity after what local authorities described as a Ukrainian attack on energy infrastructure.
“Following an enemy attack on energy infrastructure near Sevastopol, our city was temporarily left without electricity,” Governor Mikhail Razvozhayev wrote on Telegram.
The latest exchange came as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said fighting continued for the strategically important eastern town of Kostyantynivka despite Russian claims that it had captured the settlement.
