Former Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi is set to participate in a high-level policy dialogue in New York focusing on Africa’s expectations of the incoming United Nations Secretary-General.
The dialogue, organised by the Amandla Institute for Policy and Leadership Advancement, will hold on September 19, 2026, on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly.
Themed “Africa’s Expectations of the New UN Secretary-General,” the meeting is expected to bring together policymakers, diplomats and thought leaders to examine Africa’s priorities amid significant changes in the international system.
Fayemi said the dialogue would provide an opportunity for Africa to articulate its expectations for the future of multilateralism and the reform of global institutions.
He said the conversation would also examine how the continent can exercise greater agency in shaping the global order.
Fayemi, who is expected to welcome participants at the event, described the dialogue as an important platform for reflecting on Africa’s priorities and its role in the evolving international system.
