The Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC) has dismissed reports claiming that the Federal Government abandoned its employment commitment to beneficiaries of the 774 National Health Fellows Programme, stating that the recruitment process is still ongoing.
In a press release issued on Saturday and signed by the Head of Press and Public Relations, Ibraheem Zakariyya, the Commission said recent media reports, especially a publication by Sahara Reporters, misrepresented the current situation surrounding the programme.
Nigeria Startup News reports that according to the Commission, communication between key stakeholders, including the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare and the FCSC, is still active as part of efforts to complete the recruitment process for the fellows.
“The Commission confirms that communication relating to the recruitment process of the National Health Fellows is ongoing between the relevant stakeholders, including the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare and the Federal Civil Service Commission,” the statement said.
The FCSC explained that as of April 29, 2026, the Human Resource Department of the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare was still awaiting official correspondence and procedural conclusions connected to parts of the recruitment exercise.
It added that this position was further confirmed during a visit by delegates associated with the fellows to the Commission on Tuesday, May 5, 2026.
The Commission said it was inaccurate to suggest that the Federal Government had failed to honour its commitment to the beneficiaries, noting that the process was still undergoing administrative procedures in line with Public Service regulations.
“Consequently, it is inaccurate to suggest that the process has been abandoned or that the Federal Government has failed to honour its commitment,” the statement added.
The FCSC also raised concerns over comments being made by individuals claiming to represent the National Health Fellows, stating that there is currently no officially recognised leadership structure for the beneficiaries.
“Members of the public are therefore advised to disregard unauthorized statements capable of causing confusion or misinforming beneficiaries and stakeholders,” the Commission stated.
The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, merit, accountability and due process in carrying out its constitutional responsibilities.
It also acknowledged the service and contributions of the National Health Fellows during the programme, while assuring beneficiaries that the Federal Government remains committed to strengthening Nigeria’s healthcare workforce through lawful institutional processes.
The FCSC urged beneficiaries and members of the public to remain patient and rely only on verified official information, warning against the spread of misleading narratives capable of creating unnecessary public anxiety.
