The Federal Government has commenced the distribution of cash transfer credit cards to over 35,000 indigent residents across the 13 local government areas of Ebonyi State under its Social Investment Programme.
The exercise, which began at the Women Development Centre in Abakaliki, was confirmed by the State Focal Person and Commissioner for Human Capital Development, Mrs Ann Aligwe, who said each beneficiary would receive support in phases.
She stated, “Each credit card is preloaded with N25,000, and beneficiaries will receive a total of N75,000 before the programme concludes in May.”
Aligwe noted that officials from the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs are currently in the state to ensure proper activation of the cards, adding that beneficiaries must present their National Identification Number for verification.
According to her, the phased approach is designed to ensure transparency and proper monitoring of disbursement.
One of the beneficiaries, Chinwereokwu Isude, expressed appreciation, saying the funds would be invested in her petty trading business to improve her income and household stability.
