Farmers in Nasaru village, Ningi Local Government Area of Bauchi State, are expressing renewed hope for improved agricultural production and easier access to markets following a Federal Government intervention targeting rural roads and irrigation infrastructure in the community.
The intervention includes the construction of a nine-kilometre feeder road linking Nasaru to Galala Dam, a project expected to ease the movement of farm inputs and produce between farming communities, farms and nearby markets.
The road project is particularly significant for farmers who have long struggled with poor access routes, which increase the cost and difficulty of transporting agricultural produce to urban centres.
Beyond road infrastructure, the intervention also provides for the expansion of the irrigation area around Galala Dam from 250 hectares to 2,500 hectares, potentially bringing a much larger area of farmland into year-round agricultural production.

Work on the irrigation expansion is expected to commence soon, while a solar power system is also planned to provide energy for the Hydroflo pumps supporting the irrigation scheme.
For residents and farmers, the projects represent more than infrastructure development, as improved road access and expanded irrigation could create opportunities for increased production, better market access and improved livelihoods.
The development prompted members of the community to visit the Hadejia-Jama’are River Basin Development Authority, where they expressed appreciation for the intervention and pledged their support for the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The community members said the projects could open up new economic opportunities for farmers while reducing some of the challenges that have constrained agricultural activities in the area.
With the planned expansion of irrigation and improved road connectivity, Nasaru and surrounding farming communities are now looking ahead to what residents hope will be a more productive agricultural future.
