The Federal Government has commenced applications for the 2025/2026 in-country scholarship scheme targeting students in engineering and other oil and gas–related disciplines across Nigerian universities.
The programme, managed by the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF), officially opened its application portal on Monday, April 20, 2026, and will run until Friday, May 29, 2026.
According to PTDF, the scholarship is designed for both undergraduate and postgraduate students, with the aim of strengthening Nigeria’s technical capacity and developing skilled manpower for the energy sector.
Interested applicants are required to submit their entries within the six-week window through the official PTDF scholarship portal.
PTDF outlined a step-by-step process for candidates:
Applicants must first create an account on the portal using their personal details, after which they will receive an email with login instructions.
They are then expected to log in to access the application dashboard and proceed to verify their National Identification Number (NIN), a mandatory requirement before continuing.
Candidates must accept the programme’s terms and conditions before completing the application form, ensuring all information provided is accurate and that uploaded documents meet specified requirements.
Applicants are also required to select their preferred courses and institutions, while postgraduate candidates must include a statement of purpose for MSc or a research proposal for PhD programmes.
Mandatory documents include academic certificates, birth certificate, and proof of local government origin, all submitted in the required format and size.
Before final submission, candidates are advised to carefully review their applications, as no changes can be made afterward.
The PTDF noted that the scholarship supports studies in approved courses within Nigerian tertiary institutions connected to the oil and gas industry and related fields.
It added that the initiative forms part of broader efforts to build local expertise, reduce reliance on foreign professionals, and boost human capital development in the country’s energy sector.
The in-country scheme is separate from PTDF’s overseas scholarship programme and typically covers tuition, stipends, and learning materials for successful applicants, who are selected based on merit and relevance of their studies to national priorities.
