There was a brief fire scare at the National Assembly on Wednesday after a fire outbreak occurred in the Senate wing of the complex.
The incident happened at Hearing Room 107 shortly after the Senate Committee on the Niger Delta Development Commission concluded the screening of Dr. Zainab Marwa, nominee representing the North-East on the board of the commission.
The fire, which reportedly started in the kitchen compartment of the hearing room, was swiftly contained before it could spread further.
Senators Asuquo Ekpenyong and Salihu Mustapha are said to have led efforts to put out the fire, helping to prevent what could have become a more serious incident.
Preliminary reports indicate that the fire may have been triggered by a microwave left switched on in the kitchen area.
No casualty was recorded, and normal activities resumed shortly after the incident.
In the aftermath, journalists at the scene were reportedly directed by committee officials to delete images and videos captured during the fire incident.
